Healing vibes for Pedro - please!!!!!
« on: May 29, 2012, 11:07:09 am »
Our lovely boy is at the vets atr the moment - it looks as if he might have a blockage and will need an operation. Poor boy is very uncomfortable. Was fine till yestersay afternoon but then je just would not settle and was whining. He then was sick - grass and a whole carrot. Took him to the vet and they gave him some laxative, anti-inflammatory etc. Ate only 1 chickenwing for dinner but refused anything else. After a restless night he sicked the chickenwing up again and it was still whole and undigested. B ack to the vets. They are taking x-rays etc now and then we will decide what to do. He was 11 in March and is not the healthiest of dogs and nowadays English Setter fall apart at the age of 10 so it is a big worry .

Update from vet, x-ray shows several small very hard obstructions and lots of gas,- but does not look like tumor, so they are operating on him now.

Glad to hear it doesn't look like a tumour  :-*  Thinking of you both and sending him 'get well' thoughts  :)

He has been operated on and the good news is that nothing sinister has been found. The strange thing is that the small intestne had a lot of VERY hard poo that he just could not pass. No inflamation in the gut. No foreign object. Just a lot of liquid in the stomach and this very hard poo formed into small pellets. Vet has no idea what has caused it, and will keep him overnight on a drip and will see how he fares in the morning. Trust Pedro to have something really strange. Do not know whether to be relieved or more worried now.

Very glad to hear the news so far.  Have you had suddenly very hot weather, as we have?  If so, could it be not drinking enough water / taking on enough salts, or similar?

Im probably being thick here, but I assume you havent changed his diet in any way. I know that a lot of elderly folks have problems like this in the pooh department, my mother being a prime example. Do they do some sort of fibregel for dogs to keep him regular?
I'll be keeping everything crossed that he is back to his fit and healthy self very soon. Pets are such a worry aren't they?
