Post editor - WYSIWYG
« on: May 18, 2012, 09:35:47 am »
Hello all

We've made a change this morning so that all members will by default be using the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) view in the post editor.

This means you will no longer see all the [ ] codes, can more easily insert links and images by just pasting the URL into a pop-up window, and can easily use bullets, bold and other formatting options.

If anyone has any problems using this view or would prefer to use the old view, please click the last icon on the second row (blue arrow in red brackets) and it will toggle back to the old view.

Thanks,

Dan

Hello dan, I sent a message (but don't know how or where) last night to say I coulnt write anything in this box. Today tried the end blue arrow and red box but need to press the letter B to start writing.
Don't know why?  ??? But at least I can reply to posts again.
I'm not sure how I found the report problem box so am writing here today( at least I can today)

How does this work. ??? ???   I only see a normal (old style) message reply box.
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age

Annie, the box looks the same, but when you click one of the buttons to underline, or insert a smilie  :D , or whatever, you see that effect in the reply box, rather than the old square bracket codes etc.

I am liking it, though for some reason the font in my reply box is Times Roman, while the post will appear in Ariel (or whatever plain font it is), and in the reply box I'm getting a blank line after a paragraph which will not appear on the actual post, so I have to insert them by hand.

And I have just discovered that quoting still appears as the old square bracket coding  :D

Oh.   >:(

One of the things I really liked about the old post editor was that you never lost what you'd typed even if you lost your connection.

I've just written a really long and heartfelt post - and lost the lot.

I'd go back to the old non-WSIWIG in a heartbeat.  Sorry, Dan.

Go to:

Profile -> Modify Profile -> Look & Layout

And untick the box that says 'Show WYSIWYG editor on post page by default.'

Hi Dan,

When I'm using the mac (can't remember about the PC) I too still get the codes view and a preview button, and I've noticed my quotes formatting is messed up since the change:-
Quote
Go to:
Profile -> Modify Profile -> Look & Layout

And untick the box that says 'Show WYSIWYG editor on post page by default.'

it's ticked there so I should be seeing WYSIWYG - if I try the red brackets around arrow button I just see more codes (for font & colour).

cheers

Yes, there's something odd happening with quoting occasionally, where the fonts get messed up.

I'll look into it later this week and hopefully we'll have a fix.

Thanks for reporting.

Dan
