Thinking of running a hedgelaying course
« on: May 07, 2012, 11:04:08 am »
I was looking round at the hedges we have got and saying to DH that we would deed to get the one but the new chicken run relaid when I thgouht it would be a good opportunity to offset some of the cost by running a course.

As I looked around I realised that we have a huge amount of hedgerow in varying states of neglect and maintenance as well as newly planted hedge etc. I thought it would be good to run a course where there are opportunities to look at various different hedge laying "challenges". We have had some of our hedge laid over the past two years using two very different techniques swell. So there would be lots of good teaching metrical.

Does anybody have any experience of hedge laying courses or who we could get to teach?

If you're running a course I might be interested in attending - if it's cheap  ;) (I'm in Carm's)

Truth be told I'm laying my hedges anyway - not as pretty as the pics I see online, but my hedges are more overgrown with bigger trunks, bigger gaps and all out of line (the pics of hedge laying all seem to be laid from a hedge of close-spaced small stems in a perfect line).

Yes - after posting this thread I went on to the National Hedgelaying Society website and there is an accredited trainer in Llandrindod Wells - not far from us - so I will be contacting him tomorrow.

We've got hedges of all sorts here - and all sorts of functions aswell so hopefully won't have to just do "Welsh Borders" style. We've certainly got some hedges with very big trunkey bases.

Keep us up-dated please if you do decide to run a course. Maybe interested as I seem to remember that you are not too far from us.  :D

Yes - we are about 7 miles from Newtown in Powys. Between Newtown and Llanidloes.

The hedge laying chap is coming on Sunday to look at our hedges and pronounce.

Fingers crossed.
