Weaners wanted
« on: May 02, 2012, 04:41:08 pm »
Looking for a couple of weaners, must be pink skinned (local abatoir won't do black hairy ones).  Anglesey area if anybody knows of any.

thanks.

dark haired pigs come out of the scalding tank with pink skin, just the hairs are more noticeable :pig: :pig:

W-B, just so I can add that interesting fact about you abattoir not taking coloured pigs to my abattoir guide, can you tell me which one it is?

If you get a moment a review of it would also be most welcome !

The abatoir in question is local to us too. He just doesn't like to do coloured pigs. Doesn't like them very big either and is very picky about what he can be bothered doing by all accounts. We use J. Williams in Denbigh it's 50 miles away but no complaints otherwise.

The abatoir is a small local butcher, E T Jones Sons and Daughter, http://etjonesbutchers.co.uk/

The black hairs get stuck in their machine apparently!

Hughesy, we took our last 4 to Wrexham in December, as again ETJ let us down a week before we had booked them in, despite us booking them 6 weeks in advance as we knew December would be busy.  We were not impressed but as it's only 5 miles away and with lack of time with hubby working away, they're convenient to use.

Have you tried Phil Fowlie in Aberffraw? Champion breeder of Welsh pigs, and a lovely, lovely man. 01407 840 654.

BTW, our abattoir hates anything but white pigs, too. Can understand why - more work and cleaning.
