Need to move a hawthorn hedge
« on: April 30, 2012, 10:04:10 pm »
Around 5 years ago i planted a hawthorn hedge down the line of the garden fence that splits it from garden to the horse and sheep field, they were more like twigs when we planted them! some of them are now over 4ft high, the fence we planted down is about 200ft took days to do it was mid summer and took alot of watering, anyway i want to extend the veg patch which is at the top and put another tunnel up but then that makes about 30ft of the hedge in the way,if i was to dig them up and replant them would they survive or what are the chances of them being ok.

You can dig up and replant as bareroots if you do it in the winter when the plants are dormant - too late now.  Have the new holes or trench dug and ready before you dig up the plants and keep the roots moist ie in a plastic sack while you take them to their new location.

Do something today that your future self will thank you for - plant a tree
