"afternoon tea" party ideas?
« on: April 24, 2012, 09:27:50 pm »
Help!
I am hosting an afternoon tea party (so as to avoid distrupting evening milking etc) for a 30th Birthday
 (ok, its mine!!  :o )

Any suggestions for things to serve, easy to make, on a very thin shoe string budget?
Foods involving eggs, bread, milk would be great - I've got plenty of those!

please help, I'll never manage it alone!
And if you're in the area, PM me, you've very welcome

Howzabout having a childrens tea party, including jelly and ice cream, decorated buns , novelty shaped sandwiches, bowls of childrens snacks etc . Cheap and cheerful and ban the kids! You could also bake a childrens style cake with candles and have novelty party bags , hats etc. Be silly  Ask for folk to contribute with retro foods even. ( Not that retro though your only a young wipper snapper at 30) Happy Birthday! :bouquet:
Ps you could also play party games with adult naughties as pressies. ;)

I wondered about jelly and ice cream, or mini trifles.

I like it Hermit, and we can "do the hokey cokey" and the Timewarp .... ;)  :D (its all coming back to me now!)

Quiche, sandwiches, home made sausage rolls & scotch eggs, salad, home made dips, fairy cakes with icing and cherries on (I'm not allowed a tea party without those or my family rebel)

Many happy returns, Little Blue. Scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream? Dainty sandwiches? A fruit cake and a Birthday sponge with candles. Best of all, a lot of laughter, good friends, family and love :-*

Happy birthday.  How about a 50's themed tea party asking everyone to dress the part.  Borrow a record player and put someone in charge of it with '50s music and a dance competition.  Go to charity shops for old fashioned clothes, long strings of pearls, tea cups with saucers, cake displays, then pile them high with mini choc eclairs and the cup cakes and scones and cream suggested earlier.  Serve with tea or bottles of cream soda with straws in them.  You could decorate the room with straw bales, deckchairs, pretty cusions, bunting and cottage garden flowers.  Good luck.

Love it!
The "invite" already says "Hunters & Barbours, not Versace & Jimmy Choos!" (I have some quite posh friends too you know!) :D

And the kids will all help feeding, collecting eggs etc (might have to add a few more to the nest boxes throughout the afternoon!)

Thanks for all the ideas - I'm going with Afternoon tea type snacks - mini cakes, nibbles, maybe cucumber sandwiches!
Or Maybe more 80s themed - squash, custard creams, jelly & icecream (will have to think back abit harder!)
I certainly can't afford to be feeding eg barbecue meals to all these folk
My husband has promised me a fancy meal later on anyway....

Sounds like my sort of party if wellies are ok to wear!!

I often think back to when I had parties when I was younger, and for some reason, egg sandwiches, jelly and ice cream, and glasses of pop, plus the birthday cake, and pass the parcel, are all among my best memories.

I like the hokey cokey, and the timewarp :)

I have been invited to a birthday bash in Lancashire, but with milking, bottle feeding and all the other animals it will be about midnight when I arrive!!!!

Thank you for the invite :D

Was supposed to be at the Dales breed show - I always go ......but with kid to bottle feed, and a mare not far off foaling, a three hour journey each way, may not be such a good idea.  Whereas - a trip to Derbyshire, may be more manageable.
