BULK bags of compost - looking for a supplier
« on: April 24, 2012, 04:59:40 pm »
HI

can any of you good folk help me out here.

I'm looking for a supplier of bulk bags of compost. I reckon i'll need about 7 tonnes of stuff and i need them to deliver it (though I guess I could maybe collect it - 1 bag at a time)

i'm based in just outside linlitghow - so something in west lothian/falkirk would be grand

I had got them from Edinburgh council in the past, but can't find the link for that anymore

thanks

I don't know if they deliver outside the Stirling area, but this is from the Stirling Council website:

Castle Compost
PAS 100 certified Castle Compost is also available from all three of our Household Waste Recycling Centres.  Castle Compost is produced from the contents of the brown bin collections and is available free of charge to all Stirling Council residents.  Please bring your own bags and shovels.  Larger quantities of compost are available for purchase at £5/tonne. be careful with it tho, ive had council compost before and it looked great in the yard but when i put it down as a mulch and it got rained on it turned a horrible colour grey and wasnt nice at all, i would reccomned going and properly checking it before you commit to buying a load, id check it wet as well, and test for ph.

we use the free coucil compost all the time, yes it can be a bit variable, but mostly it has been great!

our garden had had several mature trees and roots taken from it before we got here, and it was oh my goodness a mess! but almost 4yrs down the line it looks like a garden, holes all filled in using recycled compost. we just go about one a month and collect a load.

we're off there today as it happens!

grrrrr

neither falkirk or west lothian councils appear to supply/deliver the bulk bags

Spoke to Forth management who do it for edinburgh council, i can get a 600kg bag for £30 + £15 delivery (their number is 0131 339 5554 if anyone wants it)

I've used teh edinburgh stuff before and it was top quality stuff - so can recommend it

Haven't been onto stirling yet - but will give them a call

thanks

I just called them - that information seems to be out of date.

i can help myself to stuff, but they don't supply bulk bags
