Storing tatties
« on: March 27, 2012, 09:40:56 pm »
I have a friendly neighbour farmer who is a potato grower, and he has kindly let me scrounge his fields for left over tatties once the main crop is in-picked up about 50 kilos the other day (the Wiglet Sisters just LOVE their tatties! :yum:)-so my question is, what is the best way to store them? We are now coming into autumn, with night temps around 10-12c, days still up to about 20ish. In the dark I know, but covered or uncovered?

Are they in sacks? always best in sacks and in a shed or somewhere cool,we have stored some form last year and are still fine,we used the large paper sacks with the metal twist ties.

We have taken out two sacks and put into the warm to chit for this years crop!

At the moment they are in old feed sacks (but not the hessian kind), but I'm worried they will sweat in there. However at the rate the piglets scoff them, don't think they will last until winter!

As long as they are not in plastic sacks they should be alright.
