In Sunday my smallest Ouessant....about 40cm at the shoulder dropped a lamb in the field and took one look and ran! Luckily I was planting carrot seeds and saw something move on the grass and hurtled down the field to take a look and found the smallest live lamb I have ever seen!
Got him indoors, caught his mum who was convinced it was nothing to do with her, cleaned and dried him and pluged him onto ewe as he did suck!
However he has such tiny stick like legs he really needed help so I looked at the stomach tube ....looked at the lamb and decided tube was far too big.....
Decided to bottle feed artificial colostrum and did 4 feeds of 25mls over the next 10 hours.....
Still alive and wobbling around yesterday but sounding decidedly rattly chested....gave half a ml of duphacycline long acting antibiotic as smallest quantity I could draw up.
This morning he is still with us and starting to pester his mum...who now likes him but is not so sure about feeding him.....for milk so I think I'm winning! He weighs.....8oz!!!!
