Just a little tip....
« on: April 02, 2009, 10:23:03 pm »
For general browsing I use Mozilla Firefox with a Google toolbar,I find it easier, safer and quicker than Internet Explorer and can easily be personalized. I don't wish to teach people to suck eggs,so excuse me if you already know this....
If I want to know what something is,or where etc etc that's on the screen...
left click and highlight the word/name/location...
right click and select "Search Google for "xxxxx"
this then opens up a new tab (or page depending on your preferences)
from there, one can then choose as you would for a Google Search or click on the Maps Images et al buttons

I find this a very useful tool, very quick and easy to use.Once again, apologies if you're already aware of this, some people might not be...... Ree

Hi

i work for Sun Microsystems, we are the champions of all things not Microsoft!!!

i've been using Firefox for years - the only downside is there is one radio station listen again service that if i want to listen to i have to do through Internet Explorer - and the amount of pop ups and nonsense i get anytime i open I.E i rarely listen to that station now.

Other than that, it's great, very secure and lots of nice plug ins.

I would go one step further though, you can download mozilla Thunderbird as your email package to replace Outlook/outlook express. does all the same stuff, but much safer/bug free - it's free and you don't have microsoft snooping about.

now, if only someone would bring out a usable linux open source operating system so i could bin XP/Vista altogether i'd be happy.

We've been using Firefox for years. I'm really happy with the parental filter, although it prevented me from trying to buy Eddie Izzard dvd on ebay, lol. The only thing we go through I.E. for is Windows Live One Care, which we run every few months. :&>

I uses thunderbird  too as i had problem once with outlook express lots of add on so it works just like outlook express or outlook.
I don't used i.E at all now but it is still on  my compter the best add on i have found it the IE tab which fouls webpages into thinking you are using IE and works accordingly

For Radio Stations I downloaded iTunes for free and listen to them on there. My fav at the moment is Iranian Pop Radio,I kid you not. Living in France and not being able to listen to Radio 2 or any other BBC station is a pain, have to do it thru the tv and sky box..... Ree

thanks Fluffy, i'll have a hunt for that add on!!!

MrRee, have you considered using a service that hides your IP address? I knwo a few guys living abroad who like to listen to scottish Radio (for the football) and use the BBC I player but they are blocked, some of them have signed up to various packages that "hide" your IP - basically you access web pages through a remote server based in another country (in this case the UK) the web page thinks you are in the UK and you are browsing anonymously

sadly the system doesn't work for P2P downloads if illegal downloads is your thing but you are scared of the BPI tracing you.

Google Hide my IP and you'll see a few packages that should work. Though I think i'd trial one 1st before buying it. also, think you have to beware which ones you use, some are set up by unscrupulous people and their dummy server has the ability to record everything you do in the internet - including saving all your bank details, passwords, credit card and paypal details - so research wisely!!

Sorry to disagree but it really distorts our breed forum pages - all the adverts are strung out at the top of he screen and the forum posts are at the bottom.  Firefox is best I think.  Safari's quite good too.
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age
