Young POL hens and laying rate ?
« on: March 18, 2012, 08:54:40 pm »
Hi all,

I recently bought 25 POL Hybrid hens.  I am currently getting about a maximum of 17 eggs per day.

All their combs look red, I have checked for lice and red mites (nighttime checks) and they have been wormed.

What I wanted to know is, is it too much for me to somtimes expect a full quota of 25 eggs in a day or is this unusual.  It is impossible to tell which ones are laying and which are not, but there does'nt seem any obvious signs.

Does anyone have any advice or tips.

Thanks all

youll never get bang on 25 eggs a day. i think the egg laying cycle for a hen is every 26 hours, so there will always be a few short, some pol birds take longer than others to start, my rir x took 28wks to lay her first.

You will get a full house somtimes but not every day. They tend to go in cycles varying from great to dissapointing over a few days.

Hybrids should lay 300 in their first laying year so 6 eggs every week at least, as they slow down in Winter. So you should be getting 21 a day on average. But they won't be full on until wk 26 or 28. They start at wk21 but not all of them and not at full rate.
