Rascal was running about while I fed the  ponies this morning. He rolled in something very bad and the smell was horrible. I took him into the house were we are lucky enough to  have a large walk in shower. (OH did up the bathroom a year ago ) I stipped off and puppy and I into the shower we went. All went well until i let him out, he ran about the place like a mad thing. Took me ages to dry everything off but boy does he smell better. How long before  does it again ;D

Now he has been shampooed??
Within about .03 of a second after you next let him out I reckon ;D

Probably fox or deer poo - it really does pong.  Put tomato ketchup on it and rub in before showering him next time, smell really does go after that - you might find he still pongs a bit even afer your joint shower - perhaps you don't notice as you will have taken some of the smell on yourself.  bet OH notices! ;D

Will keep your ideas in mind if he does it again. As for Gordon he is that used to me smelling of stables, ponies, pigs etc  that if he came home and I smelt all nice he would think I was after something and if I was all dressed up he would be realy worried.   I do shower before bed so he does not think we are sleeping in the muck heap  ;D

Our German Shepherd rolls in anything that has been released from a bottom.

As a kid I had a Red Setter, we lived on the sea-front and her favourite pass-time was rolling
over dead sea-gulls.....I can still smell it now!!!! uhhhh

My folks just bought Doggie shampoo in bulk...I did the washing etc.

So glad I'm not the only one to shower with my dog!! Sasha GSD is too heavy for me to lift into the bath and with a bit on moaning will sit in the shower while I do what is nessesary once in a blue moon!! and yes the soak up of water after is the biggest job - problem here is badger/fox poo - you certainly know when they've been about  :) :)

HAW HAW HAW HAW!

We had a tramp in the woods near our old house, guess what the Springer used to adore rolling in and I loathed having to clean off her.....?!!!  ;D

I had some wonderful soap from plumbs and its so nice I keep it for me, sod the dog as I smell worse! No its actualy wonderful, I will ask for some more as I can put any stinky dog or pup in the shower and rub the soap on.......they love stinky stuff the more stinky the better!!

Ben, our Male Lab loves fishermens "droppings"  they smell horrid but the next day when the dog goes to the toilet they smell even worse, enough to make you heave!!

just a suggestion, blow behind your dogs ears after the shower and before you release him out of the cubicle, it will get him to shake off most of the water so less drying time around the house.

I taught my dogs, "Have a shake" (by telling them what they were doing after they'd had a swim), then after a bath I'd hold a towel around them and run out the house with them; as we got outside, release the towel and tell them to "Have a shake".  They soon got the hang of it.

But yes, after the shake, the mad run around the garden and the next shake, then it'd be about 0.3 seconds to find something to roll in to reinstate their own choice of perfume...  ::)

You are all making me feel much better.  I thought I was the only one getting in the shower with the dog and was too embarassed to say.

I was getting so wet when washing him that I thought if you can't beat him then join him.

He gets the hair dryer first though.   ;D

I would shower ours more often but as we are a B&B I have to keep the place clean and with 4 dogs in the shower its hairs everywhere and muddy paws!!!!!! We did have a tin bath and as we have hot water in our garage that was my plan but never did it!!

If you put a towel round the dog's head after a bath/shower it is less likely to shake - then you can get it outside first.  Mine are taught to shake on command too.  Need that when they are retrieving from water so they don't drop the bird.  They come back with the retrieve first, put it in my hand then are given the shake as a release.  Mind you, not all of them retrieving from water as yet. ::) ::) :'( >:(
