The Cost of Living In The North of Scotland.
« on: March 16, 2012, 02:43:20 pm »
I have been trying for ages to buy an exercise carriage for my Shetlands with no luck. I decided to get in touch with a few carriage makers who all seem to be in England. I found two that were ideal, one at £470 the other £590 both by differnt makers. The cost of getting them delivered £163-£200. As its only for mucking about the fields and getting the ponies going in harness It makes it more money than I want to spend. OH is thinking of collecting but it is a round trip of almost 900 miles.

Crazy isnt it. I always plan to combine collections like this with a holiday but that would require (i) me to bear trundling down in the towing vehicle for hours and hours and (ii) someone to mind our beasties here! So it never happens!

Have you seen the price of fuel lately?  ;) You could try asking for quotes here

Would any of these folk know of a carriage maker in Scotland?

Or maybe Rosemary can help?

Tried the Aberdeen Carriage Driving but they could not help Annie. Been on the phone at 4pm and carriage is now ordered from Hillam Carriage makers. They make to order and have the experience of Shetland Ponies. Will take 2wks which works out well as Gordon will be on holiday then and able to pick it up.
