Feed Companys up the yorkshire end??
« on: February 17, 2012, 05:44:49 pm »
hey everyone.. being a smallholder and not a bigtime farmer, we don't get approached by feed companys trying to sell us pig nuts at a cheaper cost, so doing the shopping around is upto us, but iv found out theres alot of feed companys out there iv never heard of and was trying to get the cost down by buying in "by the ton" anyone know of any feed companys up the yorkshire end, or companys that are willing to deliver up here from further afield.. also if anyone has any pricing experience and costs that would certainly be helpful!!?
Going to be expanding to a considerable amount of pigs in the coming months so buying in by the odd back, is just not cost effective!

thanks alot.

Marriages will deliver a tonne pallet load. Prices are pretty reasonable too, and it's GM free. Good service.

I echo arl - BATA are good - we have an a/c so pay end of next month - from memory last delivery in Jan was £278 / tonne for 16% protein sow and weaner - we get it delivered in bags for a minimun of 1 tonne (40 bags) delivery it is free.  There is also Thompsons at York and Argo at Penistione but BATA were cheaper by a lot and I have never had a problem with their service.  The only drawback is the sacks need individually handling as we have no tractor / forklift or anything.

I vote for Thomposns of York, good service, good feeds with no rubbish in them.
Check the labels of cheaper brands, they often contain things named 'confectionary by products' , This can be anything from jelly snakes to sherbet bon bons which of course are full of all sorts of 'e' numbers, chemicals etc so pays your money takes your choice.
