Picture the scene...... elderly cat on worktop...head in bread bin.

I come in to the kitchen, growl at cat to get down..well more of 'get the $%&&* down!  Cat (Humbug)  jumps down and goes to sulk in OH office.

next day cat limping so bad can't put paw on ground,  i ring vet make an appointment .. go to do daily rounds of 2 flocks sheep and 6 ponies.  get to ponies, One has colic, ring vet, he has to visit twice in three hours.

Later at vets, poor Humbug has broken his leg  :'(.  will need xray.  Humbug is admitted.  following day has xray needs op  leg broken in 3 places, has to stay in.

one week later he is home, wired and plated, i am giving intensive care to cat and me and OH are wondering how we are going to pay a bill off around £650 and it's not finished yet.  Pony bill will be around £150 (i hope).

these things come i threes..... i am wondering what's to come.

Wishing you luck in avoiding that third whammy... but at least cat and pony are recovering well?
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

Oh, you poor thing and the cat and pony too.  I hope your bank balance recovers as well as the cat and pony are likely to.

Anyone got access to a money printer?

Thanks girls for support

Pony was fine by teatime,  Humbug is doing very well, vet didn't expect him to use his leg  for  a couple of weeks, tonight he sat up and washed his face with both paws (bless him).  not bad for a 16 year old cat!

We are having a cuddle now as i write this.

Bill is £630 to date.  2 of my friends have paid for their lamb early to help me pay some of the bill.

Vets bills can be so scary!    ::)

Update

Humbug now doing well, sitting on window sill in Oh's office, uses computer printer, desk, chair to get down.  still on room service because of dogs and very, very vocal (3/4 Siamese).  Nurse at the vets was glad he went home, he drove her mad!!  i said how do you think i feel after 16 years of it?

Not his fault he is brain damaged (at birth).  i just have to love him and he is ok

I know it's been a while but this is where we are at.

Humbug still going, still driving us mad. Stomping around on his little bent leg. He has now decided that the most expensive cat food in the history of cat food is no longer adequate for his palate. he licks a bit of them and then walks away with a look of distain over his shoulder at me.   :(

I have given up, surrenderd to his culinary desires, from tomorrow he will be on THE BEST!

cooked fish, not sprats he doesn't think they are suitable, chicken breast, the finest minced beef, slow cooked stewing beef (with Oxo naturally..maybe with a little onion) home cooked ham and roast beef and Redibrek for breakfast.... oh and as many cheesy puffs as he can handle. (used to be saturday nights with a film and pop).

;D That cat has got things sorted out just nicely  :D Just keep him from passing on any tips to Jethro and Jinx here  ;)

Not that they need too many, Jethro is currently sitting purring on the kitchen table where I am eating boiled eggs, waiting for his bit of egg yolk. If I were eating fish, it would be Jinx here instead  ::)

Humbug definitely knows where he is well off at the expense of your bank balance  ;D
