Started our pig journey in October in partnership with some neighbours with the intention of fattenning the 2 boys and keeping the 2 registered girls for breeding.  Sadly circumstances have changed for our Neighbours and they do not wish to continue and want to slaughter all 4.  Whlist not averse to 2 pigs in the freezer(s!!) rather than 1, it does seem a shame to eat such lovely registered pedifree girls!  Is there a market for 7/8 month old gilts, if so how/where best to advertise and what sort of price is usual?  Wish we could keep but our set up is not sufficient at the moment.  Will definately raise a couple of weaners each summer though - it has been (and continues to be) an absolute delight, tha nks to all help here.

I expect there is a Saddleback breeders club?  If so it's worth advertising them there.

Also you can input them for sale on the BPA website, if you are an online member, if not contact them to find out how to advertise them.

Pleased to hear you have enjoyed your pig keeping.  Maybe you will have some again another time.

If you can't sell them then they will make excellent sausages and bacon.

Thanks Julie, dont know why I dint think of searching for a saddleback association!  Will definately try selling them first, they have great temprements and should be mums rather than sausages!  Found this guide so will try advertising:

what about the rbst website on their market place?
they are probly worth more in the freezer than on the hoof with pig feed prices the way they are. its easy to feel guilty tho but they will be delicious!
