My reba has lost her tags - both of them. How do I go about getting them replaced?  I have her details written down but I have never received any other paperwork for her and I'm not sure what to do with my scattered Christmas brain.  Many thanks x

contact somewhere that sells tags that you like eg SfS, Fearings etc.
They will issue a double set of RED replacement tags with her numbers on - individual number and herd number for both ears.

You might need an applicator too (?) or if you are borrowing, be sure the tags you order will fit it ::)

If she has tears in her ears, be sure the new tags are fitted properly....

Just contact Beth - she will have copies of the original numbers. Have you not got the BGS certificate for her yet? Give Beth a nudge if not...

If not, just order replacement tags with her original numbers from the suplier you are planning to use in the future (plus pliers/applicators). They will do you a minimum run for your own herd ( for your kids and any lambs you may have next spring), plus individual (pairs) of replacement ones. As she is a registered goat try not to use red tags, as the number on the red tags will have your herd number on it and it wouldn't correspond to her records.

I use SETtags from Shearwell.

Now that's confusing - isn't the black one reserved for animals that have a bolus in them....

Just to clear up the confusion..... you can order tags in any colour (except reserved colours.. red, black & yellow)
with the goats original numbers on it even if you did not breed her.

Pedigree goats must retain their correct number otherwise it will not correspond with the published HerdBook.

Many of my goats have lost ear tags.... I just ring Shearwell & order them,  giving the numbers that need to be replaced... the tags usually arrive the next day.   I, too, use the set tags with the EID but it is the same set of pliers to insert them...... I then cut them so the tags swing.   No loop to catch in anything !!!!!!

I think Shearwell are the cheapest supplier... around 80p a pair.

sorry - not black but dark brown!  Apologies for confusion :)

I get mine from Fearings - they do the small oblong ones, as my bagot crosses have such tiny ears as kids  :goat:

Where is the best (and cheapest) place to get tags and a thingy for putting them in?  I'm dreading doing it but need to before Curry goes to meet his destination.

Red is a slaighter only tag...like the new years lambs

Black is for a Bolus EID

Yellow is for an EID tag.

Some of my goats - not home bred, have red tags, some have yellow ....one has one red, and one green tag :D.   And that one was tagged for the previous owner by a sheep farmer, who you would think knew what he was doing .......

according to my information given when i started stock keeping again last summer.......
red is for replacement tag where the original id is not known, they are tagged with the current owners flock mark and these animals are not allowed to be exported.
yellow is for electronic tags.
black, i don't remember but it is saved for something.

Ketchums are who I use, ordered 15 sets of tags (10 yellow pairs, 5 red replacements) they sent them next day and a free set of applicator thingies.
