Not been around too much lately as hubby decided to fall down stairs and hurt his head. He is still critical in ITU and at this moment could still die, but they are hoping that the MRI scan done on his spine today is clear so they can start to wake him up and access the damage. What a bloody awful week.

I really feel for you - been in exactly the same place as you but mine didn't survive.  John fell off Lochnagar, some youngsters up ahead of him knocked a snow cornice down on him and he fell 1000 feet.  Survived, was even joking with the helicopter crew, but had massive internal injuries, so had to go on life support. We had a terrible roller coaster for a few days and eventually we had to admit defeat.  What I learned was what wonderful people we have in our ITU departments, they all worked so hard, we all prayed so hard, and what magnificent pieces of machinery they operate, and how much they involve the families (if they want to be involved).  Sometimes things are just meant to be, and you just have to get on and live life afterwards.  Things that happen cannot be 'unhappened' so you must accept them and move on - sometimes to better times but always to different ones  I hope you have a good outcome, and I will be thinking of you both, Kaz. I will be here if you want to chat. I have often said since moving down here that I wish John could be here too as he loved hills and mountains so much - but I would never have seen him - he'd have been up there in the Ochils all day every day! Keep your chin up.

Yes, that's what they told us too so we chatted constantly - well I chatted and John listened - only time I ever got it all my own way ;)

I have just been moaning to my OH, so suddenly feel lucky to have been doing so.

Our thoughts and best wishes are with you both.  When my daughter was so ill a few years ago and ultimately had a kidney transplant, there were plenty of times I felt like giving up for the both of us, because watching her suffer as she did, I couldn't see any end to it, but somehow I found the strength, and so will you.  Take care of you, and remember we are all thinking of you.

Bloody hell, thats such a shocking fall. Keeping everything crossed for you. I expect you are exhausted, really sorry. Please do remember to keep us up to date, and get on line when you need cheering up or just let off steam. Wishing you the very best of luck.
Enjoying life making the most of whats available. My kids were little yesterday, today they are almost adults, where on earth did that change happen?

What a reality check, I thought I had a bed week...sooo hope everything goes well and you have the support you need. It is hard in these sort of times to do the mundane stuff like cook, clean etc, life turns into a bit of a haze and  one day things suddely hit you...hope this forum provides support for you....my thoughts are with you and your OH

Kaz,
Just wanted to echo everyone else's posts and say how sorry I am and my thoughts are with you.
About 10 years ago I faced the same thing with my fiance who was put on a life support machine after he developed fluid on the brain - unfortunately it didn't clear and the decision was made to turn it off. Like Annie says some things just happen and I do believe in fate but it's bloody hard dealing with it and getting on with life.
If you need to talk about it we're all here for you, take care.

I am wishing you the strength, and courage, and I hope you are getting the support you need. I will be thinking of you both, good luck for a speedy recovery. I had a bad head injury as a child, and I know my parents were very upset while I was in Intensive care. I was aware of them being there, and other things going on in the ward.I was lucky that I made a good recovery, and I am truly gratefull to the medical people who sorted me out. they know what they are doing. I will always have the cosequences on my medical record, and the effects it has on insurance forms etc. also I have a few scars and dents, which mean my barber always calls me the bowling ball, and won't cut my hair too short. But I am healthy, if not wealthy and thank my lucky stars.
