any working beardies needing rehoming?
« on: November 30, 2011, 11:47:00 am »
im really needing a dog that can help me with the sheep part-time (we only have 20) and other animals (ie goats and turkeys etc)
ideally id like a working bearded collie and am happy to consider a rescue beardie dog that has the ability to work sheep or - be trainable at least.
im home allday, we have 4 kids and 3 dogs so it will have to confident in nature.
if anyone knows of any that are needing a home, please let me know.
thanx

Hi

I've got beardies, they are great dogs. Have you tried the bearded collie rescues? Not sure where you are but hopefully near someone on this list. They may know of a dog or can point you in the right direction.

thanx, i was told the working bearded rescue had closed down in scotland but will perservere. we are in aberdeenshire. thanx for the numbers. i did see a little beardie in the dorset dog rescue, but bournemouth is so far from us...but she was gorgeous. we are in aberdeenshire.
im really needing help with the sheep. our german shepherd helps a little but she really has no clue and usually stands where i want the sheep to be... but she thinks shes helping.

ann, do u work your beardies, do show beardies hav working ability too?

i was thinking with the credit crunch there may be a few around, fingers crossed.

Hi

I do a wee bit of agility with one of mine. One of the others had a bit of training with sheep before we got him.

Ailsa Gill the contact for North East Scotland and Pat Scott should be able to help. Show beardies also often have strong herding instinct. There's also The Working Bearded collie Society and there's a list of regional contacts on that. http://www.workingbeardies.co.uk/index.html

Hope that helps

thanks ann,
i use to do agility years back with our rescue gsdxlurcher, he was really good (im biased) but not a tiny patch on the borders that were there. he also had a sense of humour not appreciated by everyone, bless him. lol

i have spoken to the working beardie scotland rep, and shes looking for me.
i tried years ago to get a rescue beardie but never found one then, so they must be good dogs. if i go for a  pup, it doesnt really solve the sheep problem for a couple of years, especially as theres a waiting list with my chosen breeder. i will try ailsa, thanx
