registratering for a flock no
« on: November 11, 2011, 09:09:35 pm »
I recently enquired about regestering for a flock no in order to buy and sell a few sheep now and again I dont run or own a farm just have a small yard with sheds and a bit of ground. I was sent out the forms but when I rang they told me that this was forms for a business which i counted as a farm they said they would send me out further forms which registers me with a flock no as a smallholder the lady on the phone confused me by saying this meant i could buy and sell sheep as long as i wasnt making a living at it my question is what did she mean by this i dont want to be buying and selling sheep in the wrong can anyone help?

OK - as often stated here the rules for Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales can differ but if you want to keep sheep
1. you need to have a holding number - contact your local 'animal health' depatment and they should be able to help you with this

Once you have your holding number - for the land they will be kept on, you will also need a 'flock' number.

Do all that - which should be straight forward you'll be ok - best of luck

Someone with the full rules will probably follow
Pygmy Goats, Shetland Sheep, Zip & Indie the Border Collies, BeeBee the cat and a wreak of a building to renovate!!

Unless you can prove to the inland revenue (if challenged) that the 'sheepies' are just a 'hobby' you'll also have to inform the tax office that your running a business and submit yearly or quarterly reports on the money you make/lose.
