Crow attack on chicks question
« on: October 15, 2011, 10:12:48 am »
Hi everyone,
a friend of mine has had young chicks taken by crows in the past , as there are quite a lot in this area . I have one black orpington bantam chick in a run with its mum  . The chick is now 6 weeks old and the roughly the size of a large blackbird but slightly stockier . Can anyone tell me how old / and what size chicks should be before being allowed to roam free , when the crows will no longer have an interest ?
 Many thanks

Sylvia

I keep mine under netting until they are about twelve weeks (or the size of a small bantam)   :chook: I have to contend with crows, buzzards and gulls all of which will take small chicks.
