Mmmmm,it is to my best belief that Farmer Fly is the one actually putting their hens into the auction in the first place....£1.00 hens?  Look at my post's,sorry, but I bought some £1.70 ish hens...some may say it was foolish-probably,but they were in "almost dying condition" or with more ailments than most would be happy to cope with.

I am only 13 years old trying to help out a kind friend to sell the 12.000 chickens. But now it's too late because they are going to be killed for the chicken soup when in fact they could of be alive liveing a happy life layibg eggs for you.

Then hopefully "Farmer Fly" you will have learnt a valuable lesson, that ppl are suspicious of ppl they do not know offering cheap goods with only half a story. It is a sad fact of life that way more than 12,000 chickens go to make soup, pies, dog food etc every single week.
I admire your good intentions but you will never be able to save all the chickens in this situation.
You may frown at me, but rest assured my very first chickens were ex-bat from the Battery Hen Welfare Trust and I regularly restock with birds from free range farms as stated in another post.
I hope you have had a few of these hens and it will encourage you to have more in the future?? Maybe even to start breeding yourself? After all, chicken keeping is very addictive!!!

Farmer Fly,Did you honestly and seriously believe that by coming on this forum you would have sold 12000 hens!?? it is no good blaming people on here because they are all going for soup! Like Henstock says,I hope you purchased some yourself,at least you would be saving a few :)

Why don't you tell us a bit more about yourself on the introductions forum, and join in our various threads and discussions  about poultry.  I am sure we will all be delighted to help out next time if we can, provided we have more notice and more in formation.  There are a few rescue organistions already in place - the British Hen welfare Trust (formerly Battery Hen WT) - www.bhwt.co.uk and this one in Dumfries -

We are a battery hen rescue for South Scotland and north england. We are based in Dumfries and we currently have about 90 battery hens still looking for homes. have a look at our website http://www.homes4hens.co.uk or give us a call on 07866747769
, as well as some in England
