So disappointed :-(
« on: October 09, 2011, 06:06:27 pm »
I can't stop crying today.  We had been in touch with a KC breeder of German Shepherds about getting a pup and have been kept up to date on all information from conception!  We went to visit last week and all went well and we got on  and all seemed well.  Came home from my holiday today to find she had written me an email and sent a cheque cancelling us getting the puppy.  I phoned to find out why and was told they thought my springer spaniels (4 yr olds) would be too boisterous and I wouldn't have enough time for the puppy!  I had given them all the information of our household animals etc prior to the puppies conception and as I don't work I am at home all day so I now think it must have been something personal about me and I can't stop crying!  Its stupid I know but I had already fallen in love with her, as had my kids when we went to see her last week.  So we are a very disappointed family tonight  :'( :'( :'(

Oh that's horrible !
I'm sure it's nothing personal and I wouldn't take it too much to heart.

How awful. If you are looking for another breeder I can certainly recommend one if you care to PM me. My GSD is nearly 2 years old and I am so pleased with her. Excellent temperament and adores cuddles. I to have 3 other dogs, one of them being a springer spaniel. I know she has a litter of puppies at present but it was a very small litter so could well be sold but there is another litter due next month. Anyway I was extremely sorry to read your post.

I have springers and they are the most easy going breed out there! Such a shame the breeder has chosen to be so precious about the pups. I'm sure the right one will come along. :)

Oh Melanie, that's a horrid thing to happen to you.  Of course you had fallen in love with 'your' pup.  I feel for you.  :bouquet:

Thats awful for you .....can understand why you feel as you do.

Thinking back to when our GSD's were pups, well, they grew at an alarming rate, and to be honest, the pup would soon be as big as your Springers, and hold her own!!

Do hope you find another GSD, I am sure you will.

I heard a similar thing about a GSD breeder last week - someone was due to collect their pup and the day before told that he had died - from a reaction to a wormer - despite initially being told all other pups were sold before this event he was offered another one which had suddenly become available!

I suspect you are better off without a pup from a breeder like that although the dissapointment will still be raw.  I would contact the breed clubs or look on the KC website for assured breeders - contact a few and also ask to speak to some previous puppy buyers - as a ABS breeder of a terrier breed I always welcome visitors and would let people speak to owners of pups I have bred if they wanted to.  Saying that it is important to match the pup to the right home but the breeder should not have led you on if she / he had reservations and your home sounds fine anyway.

Isn't it funny how things work out.  After my day in tears, I contacted another breeder who happily had a GSD female ready as the buyer had dropped out!  We picked her up this week and she is beautiful.  Once I figure out pics I'll put some up for you to see.  Her name is Skylla (for our purposes anyway, not her reg'd name) and she is amazing and intelligent and settled and has the most amazing temperament ever - after 2 springer pups 4 years ago who were crazy, this is a totally different personality - I think she will be amazing for agility which is what we hope to do with her when she's older.  Its things like this that really make at you look at the world with wonder and amazement at how sometimes, just sometimes, life gives a little back  ;D ;D

So pleased you have your GSD puppy, I am sure she will be wonderful with your springers. If I can offer a word of advice, please be careful not to over exercise her whilst she is a youngster so as not to damage her hips. If your springers are anything like my one they have such an abundance of energy. What a lovely name you have given her, do hope you can post photos. Good luck and ENJOY  :)

Oh, so glad it has worked out for the best.  Lovely name.  Looking forward to pics - I love GSD pups!  All feet and wayward ears!    :D
