Working / Harness pony for sale
« on: September 06, 2011, 02:21:34 pm »
I am casting about for a new home for a young Fell pony filly, 3 yr old. 13HH (max) She is dapple grey. (Rare colour in this native endangered breed.)

She has been used in harness since she was 2 yrs and is 100% with heavy farm machinery/ JCB / Batching plants and in A road traffic. Will suit as a family pony or as a working pony or both. She is fully vaccinated and passprted so she can do the larger shows if required.
100% in all ways, no vices, happy alone will go first or last - but for experienced home please as she is intelligent and will soon work out if someone hasnt got a clue. She is also a breed which is a 'good doer' so unless you live on the moors, her daytime grass intake will need to be managed April-Sept or she will get too fat and be at risk of getting laminitis.

Only for sale as she has not matured tall enough to match other Fell pony or for me to ride.(Both purchased as foals.)Rugs, tack and breast harness available (separately).

Good home important. This is no winter fire sale as we have plenty of fodder.

I have driving Fells and Dales ponies - can vouch for their strength, intelligence, and also the fact that they are good doers!!

Our 13hh gelding is on a hillside field, and even on poor grass he stays good all year.  I agree they do need careful management to avoid laminitis .....but to me Dales and Fell ponies are the best.

Good luck with your sale - I would think a grey would sell well enough.

Thank Friday you're so far away.   ;)

She sounds gorgeous, I'm sure you'll find a lovely home for her.

Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

Eric Gillie is a very reputable horse transporter, based in Scotland.  They have big wagons and deliver everywhere.  I know plenty of people who have used them, and have nothing but praise.  May be worth asking for a price to deliver a pony - may not be as much as you think!!

:)  Have to say Dales are my first choice of natives, then Fells - but having 5 Dales and 3 Fells I would say that wouldn't I!!

Thanks all, She's something special but just not grown tall enough for what I need. My neighbour is into cobs showing and 'Hoys' (Horse of the year show) and she has offered to help me find a good home. :D Indeed she saw me (quite horrified) out on the road in the trap last Xmas with Vivi when I was 8 and a half months pregnant!!! I had to roll on and off the cart but Vivi didnt mind.

Is your pony registered with the Fell Pony Society?  Just thinking if she was, perhaps putting her breeding details, as in her sire and dam, would help sell her to a Fell home.  And maybe put her on the Fell Pony Society sales list, which can be viewed online.

Do you have a photo of her?  She sounds very nice.  I have always wanted a Grey (every one of mine is black!)
