my first ever chick!!!

was born this morning, and is doing well! mum is doing a great job and dad is very proud!! shes a hydridx  and hes a cuckoo maran, who i suspected of being infertile. i know its late in the year but im in cornwall and the henhouse is warm.
i am totally over the moon!!!!!

(BTW, chicks aren't 'born', they're hatched.   ;) :D  But we forgive you in your excitement.   ;)  :D)

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

Congratulation, I remember how excited the children and I were at our first hatched chicks. Many years ago now but still remeber it so clearly. Enjoy it, hope it live a long, happy healthy life.  :chook:

thats the only time ive moved mum. she choose some dpm to nest on,must be toasty warm. i doubt theres any more. ive checked about 70 eggs and none were fertile so i thought fernando wasnt the man for the job.
