Hi guys can you help with this 1? Iv just bought a house with a couple of mature apple trees a mature damson tree and a pear tree. The trunk of the pear tree is probably 4" thick and it's about 10' tall but with all the fruit many of the branches are really hanging down low. Is it ok to strip the tree of all the pears to try and promote growth and strength or is that the wrong thing to do? $:-\$

Also with it being so tall does it need pruning or cutting back and at what time of year if so? Cheers

I think you could safely strip the branches - I've had to this year as the lower branches were splitting off (Its only a young tree)
The fruit was quite unripe, even cooked it was hard .... so I was thrilled to have my first proper pear today!!

It should be pruned every winter, to give you good fruit in the Spring
