My OH managed to get a good shot of our little black duck. I would love more of these, but if anyone can help me with identifying the breed first, I'd be grateful!

the black one with the white bit on it?

i have no idea but just gooded some pictures and found this Swedish black duck http://www.cacklehatchery.com/swedish.html near the bottom pictures one look similar but i am not a duck person and no nothing about them personaly

edit:reading a bit more about it, if it is one then it's a genertic 'throw' back from durmant geans from two blue Swedish ducks.

Thanks for that, Linz. That's what I thought for months! Now I think she's too small for a Swedish and she lays blueish eggs...

I emailed the waterfowl people some time ago but they didn't get back to me. I don't think she's a cross, as where she came from there were 2 more but they couldn't be caught and had disappeared later.

I think it is dreadful that the water fowl people haven't replied. We have a number of unregistered or crossbred Brittanys in the UK, and there are some people in our Club who think we should have nothing to do with them. I am so angry about that - it is not the animal's fault that it was born, nor the owner's, and they are generally doing their best for them, so they should be allowed to have respect, information if required, help and advice too, and to join teh club if they so wish!

It probably depends what you're breeding them for. For shows they want them as pure as possible. I don't really mind that much, mine seem to interbreed happily (so do the plants in the veggie plot). As the little black duck is on her own, I'd just fancy more of those.

hello NFD,
years ago I used to have hundreds of ducks ...al sorts ...and I had a fair few Khaki Campbells . Some of the offspring from these would come out very similar to the bird in your video . Some almost black with varying amounts of white on the breast ,to a very dark green with a white breast. I also had some Cayuga's as well and some of them looked very similar too. I think some of the people that I got them from had both as well , so they could well be all sorts of crosses that churn out the very dark ones like the one you have . I must have had 100+ KC's at any one time and 10% of them were like the one in the video . Can't remember much more than that now, as it was 32 years ago now, and I had an accident 25 years ago that cleared my memory a bit !!!! But the KC's did chuck out throw backs very similar to the black one. Not sure if that helps at all ? but it may be worth keeping in mind ( not all pure breds are exactly pure ).
