Bicarb takes bad odours away on most things but don't try and rush it as it needs at least 12 hours to act properly. I have made little sachets that I pop in my shoes if they are whiffy or just being put away in the box for a while and it simply has lavender in them and it keeps them fresh, but I do the whiffy ones with bicarb at least once a week.
