I think the Big Society approach is that by giving people ways in which they can contribute, feel useful and valued, there is less need for preventative measures.
I really really really hope it works.
The biggest problem with this, is many sectors see it as a way to get rid off hard working long serving staff that they can now replace with retired unpaid people, I spent 2 years at Uni to get my teaching qualification only to find that the big society can now provide little old ladies to do my job for no pay!!! and I am still 25thousand quid i debt with little prospects of getting a well enough paid job to clear it.
Think the government should take a look at the bigger picture before making these changes and look at the damage they are causing, free labour puts other people out of work!! sorry for the rant x x
back to the original thread............................... I have been looking at our local paper to day (not something I do much) there has been an accident near me where a 28 year old man and his 3 year old daughter have been hit by the Leeds to kings x train on an unmanned crossing near Adwick he was killed and his baby girl is critical in IC unit at DRI. maybe they should get one of the big society to operate it?

? When I was 18 ooo so very long 30ish years ago my Grandfather was killed in the same place same thing hit by a train, they blamed it on his Altzimers makes me wonder???
