Duck's bottom
« on: July 10, 2011, 08:34:19 am »
I just caught a glimpse of my Khaki Campbell's bottom as she waddled past. It looks like a pink egg is coming out of it. (I had a prolapsed chicken a few months ago, that looked more like a big red tomato.) I'm going to have to catch her and sort it out, I just wondered if anyone knows if this may be caused by being egg bound, it being egg shaped? I have 2 KCs, have only had one egg being produced for the last few days. She seems to be ok, she's ruffling her feathers more than usual and is very vocal, but that's about it. If anyone knows anything which I should be aware of please can you tell me? I'll be catching her soon!
Thanks, Vikki

I think it was me. I suggested Muscovy Ducks. OK, so they're more like small geese than ducks, but I believe they're very quiet. Can somebody please confirm though, as I can't remember where I got that from!!  :D

My ducks quack when they see me in the garden becasue they know there's food on the go.  I feed them last thing at night then put them in their shed, and there's not a peep out of them till morning. I can't sleep if I go to bed hungry, so I decided that was the best thing to do.  The hens get the same - a cup of pellets inside their shed then the door closed.  There's never a cheep. They make a racket when I go past the shed in the morning so I have to let them out and put food down for them then.

Trouble is, we have neighbours close at the top of the garden and one neighbour is always in his shed that backs onto where the DUcks/chickens are and so any movement and the Ducks use to start, they were not put in at night but they always had loads of food last thing and it ended up, Steve going out in his nightie  ;) to feed them sometimes as early as 5, remember there were only 2 and only the female made the noise but she went on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on............................on and on and on and on and on ::) :&>

ha ha Ariston!  They can be very noisy and persistent!  To be honest I don't know of any ducks that would be silent when disturbed.  You may have to remain duck-less. ;D  You are welcome to come and get a duck 'fix' down here any time - and duck eggs if you want them.
