101 uses for shredded paper
« on: July 07, 2011, 07:31:25 pm »
We are gradually building up our paper shredding emporium.

So far I have shredded all my last year's exam revision notes and some of the MSc notes from the year before.

We've got about two bin liners full of the stuff.

I am planning to use shredded paper in the chicken coop once our wood chippings are finished

We made a briquette a few months ago but it wasn't a success really.

Somebody said that you can combine with grass clippings to make a good mulch.

Anybody any other ideas?

can't remember what other livestock you have?
most will appreciate shredded paper, even just as a plaything!   It does end up as papier-mache if it gets very wet.

I bring it home from work - unbelievable amounts! no wonder they're looking to make redundancies, its soooo wasteful
:(  (not that I want to cut down on the free bedding!)

And we never turn down fliers or junk mail...

dog would probably eat it.

pigs - I give then some, but only really to play about with, as bedding it sets hard once wet...

I found my paper ended up all over the garden when I put it for the chickens so that was that, then I had some for the pups and it also went everywhere but they loved it!!! I put some in a quilt cover and fastend it up so the dogs had a stuffed bed that can be replaced and it works BUT, messy too as the stuff gets on your shoes and everywhere!!!!!!!

If I run out of egg boxes I pack the paper between the eggs in an ordinary box.
We also put it in the worm box and the compost heap.
Sometimes I mix it with wool - the mucky end stuff and throw it under a row of spuds.
