My Dream Farm - 4OD

On Channel 4 last year (I've only just found it on 4OD - 6 episodes)

Found this to be pretty good, really rate Monty Don and his 'say it as it is' attitude. Some stereotypical Londoner's on the show, my favourite being kierty, the asian lady who said "eurgh, those prickly things" whilst showing Monty around her holding.

They are doing another show (and even invite people who may wish to appear on the next series to apply via the website).

Enjoy,

John

Oh yes - I enjoyed watching those. Was Kierty the one with the camelids? I wonder what happened to her.

The only thing was there seemed to be this push to make money right from the get go.

We have been on our smallholding for two years now and are still learning and not making money (nor would we expect to!!).

I would never have the confidence to do anything else with our produce other than the odd Christmas present - and then only to close family!!

I love MD. When I was intrested in spangly jewellery as a teenager - there he was.

Now I'm interested in smallholding and gardening as a mid-lifer.... there he is!!!!

I'll have to look that one up- I like to watch 4od or i player while I'm wrapping soap orders!

I'm with you Suziequeue, We took about a year and a half before we started to make any real money from our holding and that has been the soap business. Of course we had an almost immediate saving in some ways (fresh fruit all through summer and now veg too) and then the plum wine is a saving (and if we get a liquor license it will make money too)

My hubby bumped into MD at a service station, said hello and was really hurt to be snubbed  ;D

I think I would be interested in making soap. It would be fun/interesting and creative

If you go to the individual episodes on the 4OD site there are links for most of the participants giving an update or details of their website. Alpaca lady has a website now: http://faerietalealpacas.co.uk/

It is quite therapeutic (on a good day! not so when you have to bin a load though lol)  never dreamt that making soap out of excess milk would be a good business tho!
