small bale haylage
« on: July 01, 2011, 08:03:12 am »
I have just had some small bale haylage made.....big heavy bales of fantastic meadow mix with no ragwort or docks. Can someone give me an idea of the going rate if I wanted to sell some?

Around here it is about £7 per small bale, horsehage is £8.99 but that is expensive.

If you can lift it comfortable - we pay about £6 a bale - going upto £7 for the heavy bastards.  :horse: :horse:

if you had an contractor in they will charge £11 plus vat mowing per acre.
£6.60 an acre for tedding and £6.75 for putting into rows.
range from £0.50p to £6.30 baling for small bales.
£5.15 for 6 layers of plastic.

take in those costs or you be out of pocket.

if you are talking small rectangular bales (same as hay bales)  then £6.30 for baling and£5.15 for wrapping is to say the least getting shafted  :o

Well it dosent cost me that to get mine cut n baled n wrapped by my contractors :o.....wouldnt bother if it did! Small bale hay is about £3 a bale around here off field at the moment so I just wondered what the going rate for small bale haylage is.....my bales are big small bales and 4 times the size of horse hage bales!

I'm paying £6.20 per 20kg bale for pallet loads of superb Haylage in very thick wrap.  This is cheaper than crap hay around here.

We make our own weighing around 40 kilos and charge £7 per bale.

Hope that helps

Its really good haylage too - sadly down to 2 horses this winter so cannot use a big round bale before it goes off. Will be going back to big bales of hay.
