Hello from Stirling
« on: February 08, 2009, 03:45:44 pm »
Hello from Stirling,

After visiting the wonderful home of Dan and Rosemary yesterday I have decided to join.  I took Rosemary's 'Introduction to poultry course' yesterday and I would recommend anyone else who is just starting out to get themselves booked on the next one.  They both made us feel very welcome and the course was very informative. It was lovely to finally meet some people who have some similar ideas and don't think I am completely bonkers for keeping chickens in my back garden in Stirling.

We have 2 Hens, Rosie and Percie that Santa brought my 2 girls for Christmas.  They are about 20 Weeks old and both layed their 1st eggs yesterday just in time for me to be able to tell everyone on the course.  We only have the 2 birds at the moment but after seeing Rosemary's day old Chicks arrive yesterday I don't think it will be too long before we invest in getting ready for some meat birds as well.  We don't have a very big back garden so we are currently looking for somewhere with more land in the Stirling area that we can live more of the smallholders lifestyle.

I have let my hens 'roam free' in the back garden for the 1st time today so I had better go and check they haven't made a break for it!

Thanks for reading
Gillian

Hi gillandtom, sure you will enjoy being part of TAS family. Noticed in this weeks Scottish Farmer that the Scottish Goverment is selling a smallholding  of about 5 acres in Plean.
