Limping IR

My female Indian Runner seems to have developed a limp. Any clues as how to proceed?

Just amused at the adds under your post, must have linked to the Limp and the Indian  ;)

Glucosamine for dogs and Asylum seekers Insurance  ;)

One of my chickens limped for a while and she must have hurt herself as it was Ok after a while, your duck may well have got their leg stuck or twisted, if it gets worse and develops a lump she may have even broken it, it will then be a problem.

Is that how they choose ads? By taking certain words from a comment? I never knew that! Mind you, I know it works like that on facebook, as the adverts certainly do seem tailored to my personal interests, obviously due to the key words in my comments. Clever buggers.

I know this is hi-jacking, but I just noticed the ads under your post, Sandy, included one for personalised number plates - I have just this second checked my ad for selling mine - now THAT is clever! Will be interested to se what is under this post now.  Oh the other ad was for dogs medication not Joint Care - now lets see if that comes up. Aha, foxed it!

Hope some one has some better knowledge but if you put limping duck into the seach bar on this forum you will see a fair few others have had similar problems, often they get trampled on etc. I suppose you could put the duck in a restricted area so they rest, a bit like us with a strain!! I wonder if there are natural anti inflamitories for ducks????

If no one else responds, after doing the search, contact the ones that had the problem before, I just looked but forgot as not had enough coffee yet after an early rise to transport OH to the train!!!!!! Good luck! :&>

hi sorry to here about the duck.why don't you try 0.1ml of metacalm mixed with 2ml of water in a syringe and given to the duck over its throat, if its a inflammation problem caused by twist or strain given for 2 or 3 days this should solve the problem good luck

I'll try giving her a small dose, thanks for the suggestion, although she was upset at me catching her this afternoon for a foot inspection. All four ducks are being kept in a small pen so that she doesn't have to rush about after them, nobody's pleased about it, but hopefully she'll improve. She's stopped laying, poor thing.

My Indian Runner male had a bad limp , dont know how he did it but I actually thought it was a culling job, runners do look bad with a limp as they go on their belly . I confined him for a couple of days with another for company and he seemed to be no worse so I let him out. He got better over  a week and now is fine. I did check it was not broken or dislocated, it was just a bad pull somehow.

Thanks, Hermit. I don't think mine is broken either, it's quite distressing to see her trying to use her wings as support, though. They've been confined for a few days now, I'm trying not to feel guilty! They have a small pond, lots of food and their duck house, and a bit of room. They do love to be free range. I'm really hoping she's going to improve soon as she's got significantly worse each day. Fingers crossed!
