Hi berni.  What are you hoping to do on your smallholding?
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

Hi welcome, whereabouts are you?  Chickens are good livestock to start with, and of course fruit and veg

Hi Berni,
I started just over a year ago with 2 pregnant sheep that hated my guts and weren't pregnant just fat, so they went to the freezer, my eldest son kept on at me can i have a pig please, please, please so we got 3 and that was the start, I grow a lot of veg to help feed everybody I have planted apple trees in the field to help feed them aswell, we also have 22 chickens much to my Jack Russell's glee though they drive him nuts.  Good luck I personally would start with chickens, get them housed and get your veggie plot on the go and go from there.

Sorry not been online :( We have just bought 20 acres in worcestershire (bham border) we firstly have to sort getting water on there before i can start to go any further, what i would really like is an orchard, hens duck's and geese to start, we're vegetarians so any animals which end up with us will be for life, i would like a couple of pig's who are not for breeding to turn an area at a time :)

Hello from Worcestershire - but the Warwickshire end! We've got a large apple orchard and are now selling our apple juice. We also have sheep, chickens ducks and goats as from tomorrow (all being well!).
