Easy care ewe lambs for sale
« on: June 15, 2011, 09:38:26 pm »
We have some easy care ewe lambs for sale, which will be ready in August. These sheep are ideal for smallholders as they shed their fleece, instead of been sheared, which also means their tails are not docked & are less prone to fly strike.
We are near Market Drayton in Shropshire. Price is £90 each
Thanks

Pankie,
If they shed their fleece themselves can it still be used for spinning?

Not sure about that as I only grow them for their meat.

You would have to pick up the shed fleece as you see it. I only know this because a friend has some(Dorpers) It spins o.k.

Hello, Do you have any of your easy care ewe lambs for sale?  You posted in June and said they would be ready in August.  I can collect.  If you dont do you know anyone who does.  I live in Welshpool and we also have a farm in Stafford so anywhere inbetween will be good.  Can you e-mail me on moorsfarm@hotmail.co.uk Thank you.  From Hennie

I just found out recently when reading Tim Tyne's book on sheep that there is actually a sheep with that name.  But I don't get it to be honest (and I don't mean to be rude) because you can get Soay sheep who are as easy care as the easy care and you can get them for less than £50 and they're rare breed.
Is the price of breathing going up too?  :-\

I believe the Easy Care Breed is a cross between either

Wiltshire and the Lleyn  and there is the wiltshire and the Welsh Mountain Sheep.

The wiltshire not requiring shearing and the Lleyn being a prolific lamber

I think the welsh mountain sheep was chosen because of its qualities.

If you dressed out a Soay and an Easy Care and hung them side by side, it would be blatantly obvious why you can buy a Soay for less than £50

I think the target market of the creator of 'easy care' was to make a viable and cheeaper sheep to rear and care for for general commercial purposes rather than making it a speciaist new breed.
