Hi Everyone from Robert & Sarah at South West Poultry.
« on: June 02, 2011, 10:07:56 pm »
We have just joined and wanted to say hello to all members of what seems such a wonderful forum.
We are a family run poultry business who specialise in Pekin Bantams,Blue Cochins, Seramas, Sablepoots and other rare and exotic poultry breeds.

We are also getting a pair of Oxford Sandy and Black Gilts at the weekend who we hope to have serviced by the breeders unrelated boar when they are old enough so we can bring on some more off the offspring for top quality rare breed pork.

We have just returned from the Royal Bath and West show where we did quite well for our first ever show, our four year old daughter won the first prize in the Junior Handler Competition, her Pekin bantam also won the best bird exhibit in her class too.
We also had a third place for our Blue Cochin cockerel.

The main reason we entered was to learn how to improve our stock, which we feel we did, so I am sure there will be many more shows attended in the future, we will also be showing our Oxford Sandy and Blacks.

Well there we have a little about us and we are sure to contribute where we can.

Warmest Regards
Robert & Sarah.

Hiya from West Scotland

We have chucks too - Black Rocks, Cuckoo Marans, DL Barn e Velders & some heinz, jus hatched a mixed batch 14 out of 15 in the incy, with 2 broodies sitting (1 on nothing - see another post  ::)  ) We also have Khaki & White Campbell ducklings, bees, Setters & my little Kune Kune herd.
We have only been here just over a year, have inherited some (very) old fruit trees, but have planted another 10 plus some crab, amalanchia (sp?) & rowan, also some fruit bushes & rhubarb.  We have built some raised beds this year & are growing garlic, onions, leeks, peas, broad beans, brassicas & lettuces.  Got some tomatoes & curcubits on the windowsill of the conservatory at the mo.
Spent ages clearing the old flower boarders last year & gradually planting them up with "bee-friendly" perenials.
Have been quite miserable the last month, as everything was growing so lovely in the garden this April but last months weather has trashed so many things - we are very exposed & so many of the plants & trees have "wind-burn" horrible black leaves  :o
But today the sun is shining, a gentle breeze & hardly a cloud in the sky, the bees are buzzing & the birds are singing (I even woke the pigs up at 6 to give them their brekki today  :D ) - happy days ...

Lots of lovely, helpful folks on here - welcome

I know the area a little - I 'wwoofed' at 'the Bubble' a couple of times in 2004/5.  It's a very beautiful part of the country and there are a lot of great people around there - and a good choice of wonderful farmers' markets, etc.
