B***** mange
« on: May 09, 2011, 06:24:26 pm »
Still fighting the mange with the yearling goats.  I have injected, frontlined, changed housing, grass, and tonight I have dipped all their feet in Diactomous Earth and sprayed with Neem oil!

As the vet said - just a nuisance.....

Any old wives recipes to pass on?

What sort of mange? Surprised Dectomax hasn't zapped it  :-*
It isn't just remaining itchy, scurfy skin is it?

No, definitely new mite bites a few days ago.  Heavy artillery strike for the next week!  chemicals, herbals - you name it - I will get rid of it!

ruggles - looks good, will add it to my arsenal

When the dog picks up mites (I think the foxes have got it round here)  I use  Thornit   I rub it on her tum, inbetween her paws, and inside her ears.  She now understands what it is for and will roll on her back ready for treatment  :dog:  I think there is probably a lot of sulphur in it, which I know is cooling

Anyway it does the trick, though it does take a few applications  I would guess it would work as well on a goat, though I doubt it would do the rolling over bit  :goat:

To help with the irritation I give her a few doses of homoeopathic Psorinium which I get from Ainsworths of London who will post out

All the best
Sue

Called Ainsworth Homeopathics and they were really helpful.  They are sending some drops and also a book.  Even though I am a bit sceptical, I do know that homeopathy works quite often so am happy to give it a go

Much much better.  I frontlined them all on Saturday and then for the last 2 days have put diatom and neem salve on the scabs.  checked them all this evening and only one still had any redness, all the rest were scabby.

I gave them the homeopathic remedy as sent by Ainsworths (thx DarkBrownEggs!) so fingers crossed..
