Ok I know you should just leave young birds for the parents to find... but please don't tell me off .... We have 2 pairs of wood pigeon next in our trees and every year I find the young at the bottom of the tree's - I don't know if any survive - I think they fall or get pushed out, got by the cat or on seeing one today got by crows. This morning I found and body not inspected it year to see if I can tell if it was the cat or crows, then just a wee while ago one hopped onto my office window ledge, as I went outside a crow did a large u turn away - I have some weld mesh pens so thought it would be safe in there and found another smaller one at the pen door - will try and get a couple of pictures so you can see their size. I know their parents are about but will they survive the cats and the crows - thank you

My OH appeared tonight with a box - gave it to me of course.  Inside was a young wood pigeon, although not tiny.  He had been strimming (OH, not the pigeon!) and said it was crouched in the long grass. He nearly took its head off!Can your chicks fly?  There again they would not have the sense to get out of the way of a cat.

I have got the pigeon in a cat carrier for its own safety, as the cats will definitely have it.

after we built the shed pigeons started nesting the first year they were raided by the magpies the next year they were sucesfull to the point that 34-38 of them were resident we no longer have a tollerance of pigeons

our cat was emptying the starling nests last year. we had chicks on the ground, some dead but a few alive. we dug up worms (urghh) and fed them for a couple of days, kept them in the brooder then got sspca to take them.

I think the best thing to feed tiny birds is meal worms, you can get them from your pet shop.

i rear alot of chicks each year so will give pointers as may help others

pigeons that leave the nest and land on the ground there parents will not feed them they only feed them when they can fly

other species can be put back in the nest if possible as birds can not smell the scent of people on the babys

and do not call the sspca or rscpa they will put the babys down not rear them like they make out try and find a local wildlife rescue or carer for them

rearing pigeons is not hard but they dont gape like other birds so have to be fed diffrently if you look online there are a few sites on how to rear them
