Well, me and my partner really want to shoot but have no gun yet, my son in law has loads of shooting buddies and has given me advice about what to buy, we are getting some money together then we will be off to choose, my son in law has provided me with lot's of funny stories about his shooting trips, one funny one was when he adapted his dads disabled scooter, put a large light for lamping on the top and camouflage net on it, then his very hippy and pretty male friends, one a taxi dermis, one a farrier, one a male nurse and of course my son in law all jumped aboard and of course, it bottomed out in the field, then they had to push it home, then another time, my partner and son in law went out on a Sunday after noon in camouflage only followed by the police helicopter, they were photographed as they were next to a traveller camp that was under succulence....loads more funnies but I cannot publish them...anyway, thanks, we will take up the offer, I will let you know, Sandy

I think you need the licence before you can buy the gun, don't you? - and for that I think you need folk to give you a letter to say you can shoot on their land.

Thanks, I understand the licence bit but thought about getting a compressed air rifle for now, not sure I can handle all the power of a shot gun. Steve  used to do a bit of shooting and so did my Ex, well as a farmers son he grew up shooting at stuff, even shot his brothers foot!!!!  also we will need to get someone who has known us for 2 years to sign that we are  ;Dsane, that may be difficult.....don't get me wrong, I love animals and the countryside, so, my idea was to enjoy it more and to add to my foraging....may even take Islay to retrieve or flush stuff out, anyway, first need cash.... Sandy...P.S how did you do at the dog show Anne?  Sandy

Two shows Sat & Sun, best of breed at both; another show next Sat and if he gets BOB there too he only needs one more point for his Show Certificate of Merit.  Then I'll concentrate on the Working certificate.

Yes, a low powered air rifle doesn't need a licence but you can't hit much more than tin cans on a bench with those. ;)  The higher rated ones need a licence I believe.  I won't be joining you for rabbit stew - I just have a thing about them being bunnies and couldn't eat them  ::)  well, maybe if there was really nothing else I could.

No licence needed for air rifles upto the legal limit, if they are over the limit no licence needed as they crush the gun and lock you up ...lol My nephew had a compressed air one a .22 and that took rabbits easily . He had a silencer fitted so he could stand and take out 5 or 6 rabbits all sat next to each other. He now uses a .177 compressed air one , my other nephews one , and he says it is almost as good , but it was about £300 cheaper.  He has just got a Kestral ,he has always wanted to do falconry, and is getting a peregrine x saker later on and maybe a harris hawk for taking bunnies. He also has a couple of pet ferrets they have the run of the house most of the time. Very friendly little things , his little 2 year old daughter plays with them. She carries them all over the place . They even play with his lurchers , they hide all over the place and ambush the dogs !!! He has pictures of his little girl asleep in the huge dog basket with all the dogs and the ferrets all dead to the world...The place is a complete nut house.... Anyway , air guns...I think that new laws are on the way , and it may be that a licence will be needed then .

cheers

Sandy,

When you mentioned taking Islay with you shooting it reminded me of a funny story...
My dad used to go shooting a lot and got our golden labrador trained to the gun, she was great at it - but one day he shot a duck which dropped and off she went tail wagging to find it. She couldn't find it though and despite going back 2 or 3 times had no luck and had to give up. However the next time they were out they happened upon a flock of partridges, the dog didn't even wait for my dad to shoot - just jumped up and grabbed one as it took off, she obviously wasn't giving him the chance to screw that one up ! lol!

That is very impressive, I hope my Lab does that, when I go out for walks she goes into the cover and out pop rabbits but she never sees them, I find that funny, I would love to see her chase one, my other dog can run fast, a big bigger than some labs but a Rottwieler crossed with a boarder collie, he looks a bit like a Doberman as he has a pointed face, he used to collect and chew up branches, now he collects plastic bottles, it was funny one day as I could smell beer on his breath, he opens the bottles and often drinks the contents, I could use him to clean up areas of plastic, just have to take them off him and he soon finds another, never mind Guide dogs for the blind, he is recycling dog for the conservationsits....

NO you wouldn't - it might run onto a road, followed by Islay with dire consequences! If you have any idea of taking her shooting don't allow her to chase rabbits, she might then get in the line of fire.

the ex invited a rabbit catcher to the land a few weeks ago-when we are there the dog races and chases all the rabbit all the time - every time - when the rabbit man came he sat and sat  and waited and  waited. Did they popout - doh- they just waited and waited. he went - out they came -have they a sense of ammunition?- use to love bugs bunny-  :-\ once  :-\
