« on: April 18, 2011, 11:16:35 am »
we had 2 boreay lambs at weekend, i handled them both shortly after birth when they were still wet. iv since had terribly itching skin, especially on my legs where the lambs were leaning. can u be allergic to the amniotic fluid or is it just a coincidence?
an odd question i know...

Yes you can be allergic, we lamb a 100 strong flock of hampshires and both hubby and i get very red sore arms after lambing ewes. we try to use gloves now but if the birthing fluids get on our arms it drys the skin out and makes it very itchy.

It is called "sheep rash" and I get it at shearing time too!  So can't just be amniotic fluids.
