apparently chickens understand threats
« on: March 16, 2011, 01:38:39 pm »

Yesterday i gave my 9 chooks a stern talking to about the possibilities of casserole for some of them if they didn't up there egg production...

we have been averaging about 3 eggs a day which was a bit poor for 9 chooks

Today at first collection I had 6 eggs, lets hope it continues!!!

I did the same last week - well not quite a lecture but I did ask who was not performing,  Out of 10 hens (one of which I think is past it and 2 others I didn't think were at pol) I was getting 3 or 4 eggs a day.   Today I got 9!!!!!
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age

Right. That's it. My lot are going to get a stern talking to.

I'm pretty sure only 4 of the six are laying at the moment, and some days it's down to 3.

One of ours has a habit of laying in the garden instead of the nestbox. We've lost dozens of eggs as a consequence. She might be top of the list (after the cockerel, that is, who's on his final warning before the gun).

Someone suggested to me that I take an egg box and a packet of Paxo up to the hen house and tell them to choose! ;D ;D

I actually got 4 Harmony Blue chickens today at the market (had to get something ;) and it couldn't have been a pig, got plenty of them ;D) so I'm going to be able to tell who's laying and who's not. Maran's with their lovely dark eggs, harmonies with their bluey green ones and my 2 wee brown hens with their 'standard' eggs - should be an colourful egg dish in my house from now on  ;D
