Failed sheepdog looking for a home.
« on: March 08, 2011, 07:19:14 pm »
I have been asked to put out some feelers for rehoming a black & white border collie bitch who is a failed sheepdog.  I think she would work a small flock quite nicely but is not suited to the large numbers she is being asked to work.  She is quite obedient, in good health and about 4 years old.  She currently lives outdoors but is allowed in occassionally and is always clean.

Please email me for more info

She is in Somerset/Devon

I would love her but have 3 boys one of which is a collie that is scared of sheep and it may cause a problem

Would she be suitable for the bloke I mentioned to you on Sunday....90% pet and companion 10% helping shift his cattle?

She works when she wants to - might be suitable.  Worth getting him to call me

I suspect the 'works when she wants to' attitude is a training issue rather than a temperament one.  She looks lovely, hope HMM has found her forever home for you.

i would have her in a heartbeat as she is just what we are looking for (small flock of 7 sheep) but we are in Fife.  If there was a way she could come her, then put us down as a definate "yes"

That would be an excellent cattle dog. The traditional cattle collies have white faces as the cows are more frightened of them!

HERMIT, why are cattle more frightened of white faces?

Have not a clue Faith, just one of those farming sayings like good sheepdogs have black roofed mouths . Strange but true. I suppose generations of farmers find out these things.

Sheep farmers normally won't touch white faced dogs.  Please put the word out about this little girlie she is really sweet and would suit a country life with small scale farming.
