In pain and totally fed up :-(((
« on: March 04, 2011, 10:32:09 pm »
My ankle is so sore today.. I can't do anything for myself totally reliant on others and it doesn't sit well with me. I know there are people a lot worse off than me and it's only temporary but so upsetting to be like a kid in a sweet shop with my face pressed up to the patio doors when rob does the animals at night. I want to go see my piggies, chooks and horses.. I can't even check the piglets have weaned ok and the girls are looking better.. Rob just says their fine but I need to SEE for myself.. GRRR!!!

It IS soooooo hard, I hate being disabled as I have been from time to time, I am the very worse as I am so independant, no doubt you are. Just need to grind your teeth, think about getting back to normal and have a cuppa or something stronger, time passes so quick you will soon be out their again, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease, do not rush things as it will catch you up in later life (I know) relax and let nature heal, just think, if you are in pain then nature is telling you not to do anything!!!!  :bouquet:

I know you're right sandy it's just i am so independent and it just doesn't feel right. I have withdrawal symptoms from lack of contact with my animals. I need to go see my piggies and horse particularly. I'm able to go to work thankfully as it's a desk job but can't do the animals. Very very frustrating and upsetting. Particularly if we manage to sell some weaners as I can't see them settled.

Like Sandy says, relax and take it easy - you'll end up doing more harm than good if you rush back to it too early.
Could hubby maybe take some photo's of the pigs for you, let you see how they're going ? If there's no chance of him bringing a couple into the house to see you  ;) ;D I know photo's aren't the same as seeing (and scratching) them, but at least you could check condition.
Sending a bit of reiki your way Helen (and to you Sandy) hope you feel better soon  :bouquet:

Do you have a phone that takes video?  Just a couple of minutes almost live might reassure you more than a photo - if you don't have that on your phone maybe invite someone round who has ;)

For the rest it's about distraction and getting other things done while you can't do what you want to do.  The kind of things you would be glad to see the back of - even one of those off your to do list will give you more time back out there when you get to the point you can go out but only slowly..

I am nowhere near as incapacitated as you currently are but seem to be constantly waging war with "what I can't do" on days I can't do them so have had to accept and focus on what I can which is more some days than others ::)  Yesterday I managed digging which I couldn't last week, so I got going, today I couldn't have done it so am pottering about doing what I can and feeling at least some progress has been made..  Just about tolerance of a temporary state and seeing how to make best use of the time you have within the capacity of today..

Ok use this time of enforced rest to advantage.  Borrow some books on livestock, even those you wouldnt normally enjoy reading, just for a different view point.  Search the web for really obscure websites and postings on anything that interests you.  Make sure all your paperwork is really up to date (yuk) follow up odd ads in Horse and Hound, anything that occupies your mind, because boredom leads to depression.  Time passes, just so much more slowly when you are laid up.

Thanks all, princess hope your ankle is better soon and Ellie hope today is a good day for you.
I'm being a whinger and I need to shut up and get on with it. The ground is frozen though today so I think rob can get me down the field in the wheelchair so I'll get to see my piggies. To be honest I think he'd carry me just to shut me up lol:-)). I'll be careful though as I do not want any setbacks. After I get a fix I'll do some reading great idea HM. As for my accounts.. That bored I'm not!

right, lets make a list of all the things we could waste hours trying to find out, and commission Helen to do them!

as has been said - your body is telling your something when it hurts. take heed.
glad to hear your Mister is helping out after all, but I sympathise with how frustrating it is to not be able to see the animals for yourself.

take care of yourself, and all TASers, too     :)

Hi Helencus, i can sympathies with you totally, when my scaitica strikes im bed ridden, last time it was for 8 days, im a very very independant person, and its a hard situation to be in, having someone do everything for you, and most of all not being able to get out and see ya babies, my horses are my world, it breaks my heart when im not able to see them,

How i cope i have a baby monitor set up in the barn, it was originally put there for security (you can hear everything) but it has been a lifeline for me, least i can hear me horses, listening to them has really helped, im so tuned into there special ways and sounds now, i know if there is something up and some of the things they get up too makes me smile, it has helped hugely.

My OH takes pictures on his phone, videos, and i spend hours on line, either on here, or researching something or other, plus i make plans for when i am mobile, dont let yourself get down, tomorrow is another day, the pain may not be as bad, every day you are a day nearer mobility.

Kepp your chin up and look forward  :hshoe: :bouquet:

Sciatica sufferer too. So sympathy all round. I know what you all mean about missing your animals when i'm stuck inside i miss seeing them and ask all sorts of questions driving ever suffering to distraction, today i was mucking out the yards and OH said " don't be kna***ring yourself up, i'm not feeding bloody pigs for a week coz you're laid up with your back, so just don't be overdoing it, you know what you're like" I think he cares really ;D :D
I am now full of tramadol & tea, pigs are fed, strawed & watered, OH has gone pigeon shooting with the dog and peace reins, aaaahhhhh. bliss
make the most of your enfored rest helen and get good and well and strong, feel free to moan and whinge. We've all been there got the badge the rash and the t-shirt, the aches the pains i could go on............... ;D
best mandy :pig:

Well it started raining so I didn't get my piggy fix but hubby is being a star. He did all the animals with dad today and he said he enjoyed being out and about with them. Maybe something good will come of this and he'll see what I see about keeping them.. You never know!

Pity you aren't all closer - I LOVE doing books, even though I've done it all my working life - now that IS sad, isn't it? ::) :-[
Always have been, always will be, a WYSIWYG - black is black, white is white - no grey in my life! But I'm mellowing in my old age
