I'm not just posting this to keep Annie happy... honest.

I'm absolutely fed up with my glasses. Never find them especially useful due to falling off face regularly - my current frames are the worst I've had for it. I can barely keep them on. I spent some time digging part of my veg patch on Friday afternoon and was having to push them back up my nose every two digs. Eventually gave up, put them in the house and discovered the only thing that caused me problems was thicker darker roots very similar in colour to the wet earth. I'll get those with a rake in a day or so!

Anyone else irked by their glasses when gardening? Any suggestions on how to minimise it? I used to have a sports strap about 14 years ago that held them in place - I'm thinking it's time to find somewhere I can buy a new one.

Yup!  I spent this afternoon going in and out of our polytunnel........ and being blinded by the steamy mist every time I went in!!

Mine fell off when I bent over in the tip, they have got broken now and my £1 ones stay on when I bend over!!!

In my 'official capacity' as a dispensing optician I've GOT to comment 
The reason your specs come off constantly is because they're not fitting properly. There's 2 possible reasons for this:-
 1) They're a 'bad' fit. More common with plastic frames, or those with a fixed bridge piece. To be honest, if it's this which is causing the problem you'll never get them to stay on no matter what you do and it's down to the assistant who sold you them either not knowing or not caring. But luckily it's more likely to be
 2) They need adjusted ! Specs slacken over time (and taking them off with one hand or putting them on top of your head makes the problem worse !) just pop in to your local, friendly optician and explain to one of the staff the problems you're having. It should be a simple 5 minute job to tighten everything up and re-adjust them to fit you again. Job done (and no more excuses for not getting on with the garden !)

On the topic of steaming up - this can be reduced by having a hyrophobic coating applied to your lenses (got to be done with brand new lenses before they're cut to fit the frame) more often or not this coating comes as part of an anti-reflection coating, but some opticians can supply just hyrophobic coated lenses - generally an anti-reflection coating will add about £30 to your lens cost.

 I have worn glasses for 48 years now and I hate the bloody things . I have metal frames and plastic lenses , so although I am as blind as a bat and wear bottle bottoms , they tend to stay put , plus I adjust my specs myself . Steaming up drives me potty , but indoors I just hold them over the kettle for a second or two .. nice warm specs that don't steam up.
My prescription is old and I need retesting , but I am broke so they will have to last a while yet . The frames are soldered to buggery now , I do my own repairs too.. If I could I would have my eyes lasered tomorrow , I am so sick of specs.

I wear monthly disposable contacts which are great but...when I have sore eyes have to wear my old specs and by bedtime if I want to watch TV need them too.
just get so frustated when I'm trying to do anything in the kitchen and glasses steam up - open oven door, washing up, open dishwasher etc.
Like you Russ, I'd love to get laser treatment.

i wear mine from wake up to bed time and they dont fall off ever and i do lots of stupid things wearing mine...

but then when i got them i made sure they adjusted them to be a snug fit the woman kept saying aren't they tight, they were a little but they always slacken off a bit in the first few days now there lovely and dont come off...

I have disposable lenses and glasses. I'm supposed to be getting used to the lenses after years of not wearing them - when I was young and vain, I was desperate to get lenses. Now, I don't seem to find time to put them in - glasses are quicker. I don't have much problem with mine if I keep them on the right place on my nose - I tend to wear them quite far down - told the optician that they weren't very good - he put them up my nose and said "is that better?" and it was 

The lenses are great for outside - well, I can wear sunglasses if I need to and they are good for distance but they're hopeless for close work, so I woudl need to get a pair of cheap reading glasses for indoors. It's on my list.

I'd love to be able to afford laser surgery, although that would only correct the distance vision, I'd still need glasses for reading (given my advancing years  ).

I've not worked in optics for 3 years now, so there might have been recent advances I'm unaware of but here's what I know about the surgery option.
It's more effective on short sighted prescriptions.
It only corrects the present condition, so if your eyes are getting progressivly worse it won't halt that.
It's not effective on presbyopic prescriptions (the reading spex part)
and like every surgery - it's got it's risks. There's always the chance it won't work and you could be left with blurry vision or worse.........

I'm blind as a bat without my specs, but while I can correct my sight with specs/lenses there's no way I'll be rushing to get surgery

I'm short sighted so would be suitable but unless I win the lottery, it won't be happening. If it come down to a choice between drains and laser surgery, drains win every time.

At present I only need them for reading things like telephone directory and intricate work which is very fortunate as I can never find them when I do need them.

Until a couple of weeks ago I bought cheap reading specs - was up to prescription of 3, which I believe is about the highest you can get shop bought.(Poundland £1 a pair)  Then I realised I wasn't seeing the TV or folks faces clearly so I started wearing an old pair of 1.5s for that.  Then I began to wonder if I was safe driving and my sister had ops for cataracts, so because of that I decided to take up my free eye test at specsavers.  They were very thorough, gave me a clean bill of health, said my 3s were fine for reading and computer work but that I needed specs for driving or I'd be in the jail.  So I got their special offer of 2 pairs the same for £69 - one for the TV and the other for driving - and looking at people!  They made absolutely sure they fitted perfectly and ensured I know not to take them off by one leg or put on top of me head.  And they don't slip down!

I have vari focals for driving and they can take some getting use to, m ind you, the first pair Rohan got and she scratched both lenses bang in the center, then I got some off the internet, they were lovely, I have had them for a time but then left them in the garage and Rhum came to me with them, again, broken, so, until we become a bit more solvant, £1 ones for now!! Happyhippy, you kept that skill quiet, you are so talented!!!!

I used to wear glasses, hated them!  Then went to the day and night lenses - Wear for a month 24/7, then bin - They were great!  Then I had them lasered, and haven't looked back since (well, I have looked back, I wasn't blinded or anything...  )  Love being glasses/lenses free!!!

Without sounding big-headed there's not much I can't do (the 'needs must' bit ) but the one's I'm really into are my pigs (obviously !) Optics, Interior & garden design, Feng Shui, Reiki, engraved signs, jewellery, candles, web design (using templates) cooking, eco-friendly stuff (reduce, reuse and recycle - though hubby just calls it being cheap!) arty/crafty things and (hopefully) being a good mum to my 4 kids and bringing them up to be decent adults. Oh god, that does sound so big headed   Folk that know me will know that I'm really not that kind of person at all, just love doing what I do (most of the time )
