Jack Russells are terriers, they want to kill things - they are generally good ratters. I wouldn't buy one necessarily for my kids. You may be lucky and get one that is a good pet however. Good luck in your search

I have always, always lived with Jack Russell's, and they are great dogs.

However, I would be very careful with them with children. The JR we have just now, and the previous one, are/were both exceptionally good with children, but young children still do not like them. Ours tend to jump up because they are small, and young children are scared of that. They are terriers, so you must be sensible with them, and that means you have to be careful 24/7. I do have a scar where I was bitten by my grandmother's JR when I was 18months old.

Might have puppies in a year or so- but nothing just now!

Hi Gazjackson, A lady who bought a couple of my weaners was looking for a good home for 2 jack russell older puppies, cant remember now if dogs or bitches,but got feeling they were bitches, she lives a fair way away from you ,worcestershire/tenbury Wells way if I remember correctly,if you are interested I can get in touch with her see if she still has them,

terrier by name terrier by nature, my little jack is the most loving of dogs but she is not keen on kids, be careful as folk have already said

Personally I feel if you just want a dog for a family pet you can't do much better than a Labrador. I believe Sandy and Steve have mated Islay again.

id say labradors are the best aswell, so forgiving, they mite be clumsy as puppies but theyre hearts are made of gold. wev got gsd and llaso apsos aswell but the lab is the kids favourite. added bonus, they pick up all the crumbs!

thanks for your concerns about terrier dogs.
I have always had jack Russells and understand they can be a bit funny.
Mine have always been able to tell the difference between rats and kids tho.

Lol- glad to hear it!

Our old JR (sadly she has passed on now) knew the difference between a wild rodent, and any pet rodents. She just knew if we had them in the house and we were handling them (guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils etc) that she wasn't allowed to kill them. Weird really, given that she was the most efficient ratter we had.

My Jack Russell is good with my grand children but they do know to be careful around him. Any dog can bite if given a reason its a case of training people and dog on how to behave around each other.

any dog can have its moment its down to the owners. we had a JR when our kids were very young and never had any problems.

but i have a lovely scar on the top of my leg from when i was a toddler, i sat down in a farmers chair and was quickly removed from the said chair by my leg it took the farmer and my mum to remove my leg from the dogs mouth.....................the dog was a lab not used to children that totally lost it for a split second. luckily it never put me off dogs but i am always aware any dog can turn for the strangeist reason

we now have border terriers and no greater bond could be had between the dog and grandchildren.

I have 3 russells (and a Border). Are you looking for a pup or an adult? I have some connections in Jack Russel land!
