i was wondering if mixed grit should be scattered around the area for the hens to find themselves or if it should left in a feeder inside the coop where the hens will know where it is?

Unless you fix the grit container securely, the hens will scatter it themselves any way. Mine do  :)

mine,too. I mix it by the half-handful with the pellets in a feeder.  :chook: :&>
