Hi Carole that is an extremely reasonable price, some lucky person will be getting some gorgeous piglets.

Did you see the article in Daily Mail (I think I have it coming via snail mail) apparently Tony York the guru at Pig Paradise Farm is mentioned.

I think Mangalitsas are among the rarest in the world is that right?  Related to the now extinct Lincolnshire Curly coats?

Hi
Yes this is the same pig, very rare and VERY hairy which makes them ideal outdoor pigs, hardy and for me the best of the best.
Tony York has imported some from Austria/ Hungry where they originated from.approx 2 years ago. We have had our Mangalitzas for approx 3 years and they are no relation to that from Pig Paradise Farm.
Price is not that important to me, it is the promotion of the breed and their continuing to become recognised and to keep numbers increasing, along with loving homes and for others to experience the fun of a hairy pig covered in mud enjoying tummy rubs.
Thanks

As they dont grow to the weight of a GOS or tammie I imagine they make much better pets?

Hi Francis,
Welcome to this site, I have found everyone very helpful and full of valuable info. Have sent you mail about the piggies hope you receive it. We are based in dept 56 near Gourin, where are you  ? as you are most welcome to come and visit and see the pigs and discuss further what you are looking for, as  I think all the babes are sold but I do have 2 castrated male who are approx 8 months old still available or else they are off to the but****,( cant say too loud they might hear) shortly.
Cheers
Carole

 :) Hello Carole,

I would like one as a pet so a castrated one would probably be a good idea, I'll speak with the other half.  Do you think it would be ok to keep along side GOS that I'll be fattening up?  I would try to time it so that my 2nd lot would arrive shortly after D Day :( do you think that would be ok?  as I wouldn't want him to get lonely!!

Many thanks Donna

Hi Francis
At what age are you thinking of for GOS, at present the castrated males  I have are approx 8 months old. They are used to being with what I call the creche, ie little ones.As i said in my PM there are some great experts on here, for example Pigsatlesrues and Hilarysmum to whom I always seek advice from, they will soon correct me if I am wrong here, but I see no reason why this mix should not work. These castrated males are very tame and used to humans and are not typical escapees!!!!!! unlike some I could mention but not here!!
Keep an open mind, speak to the OH and seek advice from others
Talk soon

Carole you must have met Pumpkin and her family (tamworths).  Escape artists to make the Great Escape lot look like amateurs.  (Although Mrs DeVere seems to have joined their ranks too).

Francis B - I would certainly keep a couple of Gossies with the Mangalitsa boy, he would love the company.  There was someone on Anglo Info Bretagne/Normandy and Pays de Loire advertising neutered gos males ready to go now - if you dont already have some lined up.  Although when it comes to dealing with young stock, Pigs at La Rues is really the one to ask.

Hi Carole for selling piglets UK Grapevine is back on line.  For anyone living in France trying to source anything to do with livestock or smallholding its a free site beloved of smallholders everywhere.  Its free to buyer and seller.

And this is probably an absolutely unashamed plug for a really good site for advertising and finding livestock here in France.  For which many thanks, although I have nothing to do with the site as such am just a customer.

Thanks for the info HM but I think I've got some lined up, am just waiting for my arc to arrive from Farmer Giles!  If not I'll go & have a look or try pigs at la rues! I think the young Mangalitza boy sounds lovely.

Carole - I will send you an email as we are interested in one of the castrated males, but don't get our arc until 2nd week feb. So need to make sure that's ok with you to hang onto him for a bit longer.
Speak soon
