Lambing time
« on: January 25, 2011, 09:32:08 pm »
Just thought I'd share some pictures of one of the newest arrivals on the farm.  Mum lambed early sunday morning and there he was.  bit of a more traumatic experience this morning with only the head presenting - Mum did well, and after nearly an hour of getting the head back and getting the legs into the right presentation she produced a whopping great big ewe lamb; very pleased!  more pics to follow...

I rather like Portlands -  more so than the other primitive breeds.

6 in 6 days, all singles but two out of 6 needed a bit of assistance (well, one needed a lot of help).  Great big lambs - I dont think Portlands are quite used to the quality grass we've got!  All doing well, 5 out in the field yesterday (last one only lambed at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon).  3 boys, 3 girls, dad very proud!

Thanks for pics, Interesting to see everyones setups - but isn't the lamp a bit too low?

I know very little, am not being rude  :-\

fair one, seen as the poly tunnel has just burnt down.

Only joking - I think it's a trick of the picture - Portlands are pretty short as it is and the lamp is low wattage.
